Flood at School Update 1

Teachers and staff help out during flood at Panyaden

Flood at School: Update 1

Panyaden International School will be closed from now and the whole of next week (12-20 October) due to the flash floods this morning. There is substantial damage to buildings, electrical systems, and loss of equipment, computers and other school materials which we will be assessing over the next days. We kindly ask you not to enter the school until further notice because parts of the school remain unsafe. We will keep parents informed of the updated situation via email, here on the Panyaden blog and on our Facebook page. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 080 078 5115. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our families and would like to ask for your support during this time. It is a time for the school community to pull together in the face of adversity.

We are grateful for the many messages and offers of support received throughout the day today. We will certainly need some helping hands over the next few days. We have also set up two appeals funds, one is for online donations from the global community, the other is via local bank transfer through the Siam Commercial Bank. We kindly ask you to share these with your contacts or via social media. Thank you.

Panyaden Presents Cheque to Children’s Home

Panyaden International School Director hands over cheque from the school to Viengping Children's Home
Act of generosity. School director Neil Amas presents the donations generously given by Panyaden parents, teachers and students to Viengping Children’s Home Public Relations Officer, Khun Duangmanee Wonghan. At the school’s New Year Giving Market, students sold handicrafts they had made in class and teachers and parents sold homemade food and drink and donated cash, resulting in a total of 27,483 baht for Viengping. The children’s home was chosen as the school’s Charity of the Year because of its connection with Sam, our former student, who grew up there and was recently adopted by a family in Ireland. Pictures included of Sam in Ireland where he had been reunited with his close friend, also previously adopted from Viengping.

Understanding difference. Last week, Prathom 2 and 5 students spent a morning with children at a local village school, Wat Prachakasem in Ban Pong. We took a total of 7,025 THB cash donations from parents and teachers plus sales proceeds from ‘My Project’ It’s All Natural Food, to the poorly resourced school, exchanged gifts that both sets of students had made and shared learning activities and games together. A real-life opportunity to practise the Wise Habit, ‘Caga’ (being generous).

Social Contribution by Prathom Students

Prathom social contribution, Panyaden School

Yesterday, students from Prathom 2, 5 and 6 visited Rappaport school in Bor Kaew, Sameong, as part of our annual social contribution initiative. Rappaport is a kindergarten and primary school serving poor hill tribe communities in the hills of Samoeng, Chiang Mai.

The school has very little resources and basic facilities. Our teachers and students created educational activities for the local Anuban students. We had fun presenting 5 learning stations consisting of Art, PE, Music, Science and a puppet show. We also gave donations contributed by our parents, students and staff such as shoes, raincoats, cooking utensils, mats, clothes and money. The children loved all the activities and thanked us enthusiastically at the end of our visit.
