School Visit and Dhamma Talk by Phraraja Bajaramanit (Venerable Ajahn Jayasaro).

Phraraja Bajaramanit (Venerable Ajahn Jayasaro) together with Venerable Phra Ajahn Jiew visited our school on Friday, January 24th, 2020. Phra Ajahn Jayasaro’s dhamma talk on “Relationships”, touched upon loving-kindness, gratitude, patience, and mindfulness. These were the positive virtues that Ajahn Jayasaro stressed we should cultivate and apply it with consistency in our lives.

We at Panyaden are ever grateful to Phra Ajahn for his kind support and wise teachings and look forward to his next visit.

Ajahn Jayasaro spoke about the 5 Precepts and their role in maintaining healthy relationships. He raised the point about how they help us maintain a code of behavior for ourselves; how we may experience frustration or anger, but we resolve not to do any harm with our words or actions, no matter how upset we might become.

Ajahn also spoke about “kalyanamitr”, or true friendship, as the basis for any type of close relationship. He said that it’s true for romantic relationships, but that it’s also true for child-to-parent relationships and parent-to-child relationship. People often default to the mindset of trying to gain an advantage, or “score points”, but if we can approach our conflicts as a chance to help a friend, this can soften any oppositional or defensive attitude. This is a wise way to support and strengthen our relationships.
