Learning Outcomes
Kindergarten
The kindergarten curriculum focuses on the development of 4 areas: physical, emotional, social and mental.
The goal is to develop these 4 areas to their full capacity according to age. The children learn to solve problems through creative thinking combined with a rational process. Parents and teachers will work together as a team to establish moral principles at this early age.
Prathom 1
Thai: The children build up their knowledge of word and sentence level work through regular and systematic teaching of phonics and spelling patterns. The children start to develop their writing skills. They are encouraged to write freely and not not to worry if they make mistakes in grammar or spelling.
English: The children experiment with descriptive words to add elaborative detail and use English to perform common social functions, such as introducing themselves, greeting others and giving and receiving messages.
Mathematics: The children develop a positive attitude towards mathematics. They will be able to count numbers effectively and develop a sense of shape and space awareness, as well as solve simple problems.
Arts: The children become aware of their surroundings and reflect this in action, painting and drawing. Their painting will involve the wider shapes and color ranges.
Science: The children start to observe, investigate and describe familiar objects and living things in their surrounding environment. They will be able to make simple things by developing handicraft skill and using a range of tools and materials.
Prathom 2
Thai: The children are more confident in their ability to write and are able to focus on more complex areas such as experimenting with interesting adjectives, verbs and adverbs in their compositions. They become more adaptive in using appropriate verbal and non verbal behavior in order to secure and maintain attention of the listeners. They start to understand how a story structure is organized by listening to and reading fiction.
English: The children focus on descriptive detail and begin to be explicit in relation to people, place, times, size or event. They will be able to recall and talk about significant events and details in stories. And they experience more challenging vocabulary and sentence structures from their teacher.
Mathematics: The children apply simple mathematical concepts and processes in a variety of contexts. They will be able to estimate, measure and calculate length, weight and capacity using appropriate units of measurement. And they recognize measure in everyday use.
Arts: The children enjoy looking at objects in their environment in a more focused way. They will interpret what they see in a more representational manner. New techniques, such as Paper Marché or clay work will be introduced.
Science: The children observe, identify and discuss a variety of plants and animals in different habitats of their immediate environment. The awareness of using electricity at school and home will be developed. Also, they will be introduced to the use of magnets of different shapes and sizes in purposeful play and to explore their effects on different materials.
Prathom 3
Thai: The children cover a wide range of fictional texts including stories with familiar settings, plays, different types of poems, myths from local cultures. In Prathom 3 the children learn many types of writing such as journals and book reports, and further develop their story writing ability by learning how to describe characters in detail. They initiate discussion, respond to the initiative of others and have practice in talking turns.
English: The children develop a more elaborate vocabulary and sentence structure in order to extend and explore meaning. They will be able to find information, share it with others and listen to a story or narrative and ask questions about it.
Mathematics: The children learn 2D and 3D shapes and will be able to identify the use of them in their environment. They develop their understanding of addition and subtraction and explore repeated addition and group counting. They will be taught to calculate the exchange and use of money.
Arts: The children learn how to express their feelings towards local arts. Local techniques, such as carving and handicraft will be introduced.
Science: The children observe, discuss and appreciate the attributes of their local environment. They develop a sense of responsibility for taking care and improving their environment. They also explore how objects are moved by pushing and pulling and explore the effect of heating and cooling on a range of liquid and solid objects. The concept of gravity will be introduced in this year as well.
Prathom 4
Thai: The children develop skills in writing significant details about events or activities. They can express their feelings about what they like or dislike by writing. They engage more spare time in reading and browsing by having ready access to reading material.
English: The children express a more formal response by giving a considered personal opinion on a book in oral or in written form. They experience different types of text and develop awareness of differences between written and oral language.
Mathematics: The children continue to learn various ways of solving problems and making deductions. They will be able to apply concept and process in more varied contexts. The understanding of multiplication as repeated addition will be developed. Also, the analysis of graphs and tables will be introduced.
Arts: The children continue to mix more complex colors and tones. Their awareness of line, shape and texture is developed. Print making techniques will be introduced and the children will make prints for their functional uses.
Science: The children observe and explore some ways in which plant and animal behavior is influenced by environmental conditions and how they adapt. They investigate the relationship between light and material. The children will be able to examine a number of ways in which the local environment could be improved and enhanced.
Prathom 5
Thai: The children discuss the meaning and origin of words, phrases and expressions with their teacher. They become more familiar with the functions of words without necessarily using grammatical terms. They will be able to choose the appropriate language for their subjects and audiences.
English: The children make presentations to the class in various topics. They listen to the presentations of the others and discuss and decide which are the most important questions to ask. They will be able to express their reactions to particular experiences in writing. And they listen to expressions, reactions, opinions and interpretations and retell or summarize them.
Mathematics: The children identify, compare and calculate a fraction and decimal. Also, they solve and complete practical tasks and problems involving fractions and decimals. They develop the understanding of lines and angles and the application of problem solving. They can collect, organize and represent data in blog graphs, bar charts and pictograms.
Arts: The children will have the opportunity to create 2D and 3D clay models. They will experiment using harmonious and complementary colors for their effects in compositions.
Science: The children become more aware of some of basic life processes and life cycles of animals and plants. They understand the role of sunlight in photosynthesis and appreciate its importance. They recognize and identify a variety of sounds in their environment and appreciate the importance of noise control.
Prathom 6
Thai: The children build up their ability to listen to expressions, reactions, opinions and interpretations and retell or summarize them. They also develop their critical and analytical skills in reading. They learn about the structure and understand the function of the different medias, such as newspaper or advertisement.
English: The children develop their skills in choosing a register of language appropriate to their subject and audience. They will be able to observe the convention of grammar, punctuation and spelling. They will also write fluently and relevantly in other areas of the curriculum.
Mathematics: The children develop their understanding of simple percentages and relate them to fractions and decimals. They can use angle and line properties to classify and describe triangles and quadrilaterals.
Arts: The children will have opportunities to create work from their observation. They will enjoy drawing and sketching models. Their skill will be developed through activities, such as clay models, painting or even installation arts.
Science: The children develop an understanding of the male and female reproductive systems and the physical changes taking place in male and female during growth. They investigate the effect of light, air and water on materials. The children at this year recognize and investigate aspects of human activities that may have positive or adverse effects on the environment. They increasingly appreciate the need to conserve natural resources.
